Enderby Swimming Club

About Us

Enderby Swimming Club is a progressive competitive swimming club based at Enderby Leisure Centre with sessions at Desford and New Parks swimming pools.
The Club was established in 1984 as an inclusive club aiming to provide high quality swimming lessons accessible to the children of Enderby and the surrounding areas. The Club continues to operate with this ethos today. It provides a friendly and supportive setting where children can progress at their own pace to become safe and competent swimmers. Children are able to join from 5 years old, as non swimmers, and lessons are structured in a progressive manner following the ASA's new National Plan for Teaching and Water Skills.

Once swimmers are old enough they can progress into the competitive sections of the club which is flourishing.  We have over 150 swimming members who are given the opportunity to swim competitiveley due to our actively supporting two teams in the Leicester Autumn and Winter Leagues for senior swimmers and with two teams in the Nuneaton and District Junior League for our junior swimmers, and, all members (aged 7 and above) can enter our Club Championship Galas.  We also host two friendly galas a year and encourage our members to enter a number of local open meetings.

The object of the club is to promote the art of swimming throughout its membership through teaching, development and practice.

The club aims to:
•    help swimmers maintain their enjoyment and reach their potential in a safe, structured environment.
•    enrich swimmers' lives through the structure, organisation and commitment to the sport, developing them as swimmers as well as socially and emotionally.
•    develop techniques, strength and speed, reducing the risk of injury while ensuring progression in the sport at a rate according to individual ability.
•    help swimmers remain swimmers for life

The Club is structured to achieve these objectives as outlined below:

Learn to Swim  (Up to 7 years old)
This squad will follow the National Teaching Plan for Swimming stages 1-7 followed by Bronze , Silver and Honours. At this stage the emphasis is on fun and water confidence. Other fundamentals will also be considered such as technique needed for competition  as we teach competitive swimming.

Pre Diddy (8 years old)
This squad will follow on the Bronze, Silver and Honours of the National Teaching Plan. The main emphasis in the sessions will be swimming technique, before speed of swimming becomes a consideration. There will also be emphasis on the execution of dives and tumble turns. The squad will be a bridging squad from LTS to Diddy, and swimmers may attend one, two or three sessions per week so that they can stage their transition into the Diddy squads. On reaching the age of nine all swimmers are expected to swim at least twice a week.

Diddy B (9 years old to 12 years old)
In this squad they will see a gradual increase in training working them in slowly, until they reach10 years old. At this stage swimmers reach full training potential and  Diddy B will work closely with Diddy A. Some of Diddy A will be training at County squads and there will be room for potential Diddy A swimmers from the Diddy B squad to train with the Diddy A. Technique and stamina work become important at this stage. It is recommended that these swimmers attend three sessions per week.

Diddy A (9 years old to 12 years old)
As per Diddy B above, the two squads will work closely together. The Diddy A squad will provide a pathway for swimmers into the County development squads. It will be important that swimmers in this squad swim the correct number of sessions per week.  It is recommended that these swimmers attend three sessions per week.

Seniors (13 years and older)
This squad will be fed from both the Diddy A & B squads. Due to the numbers of swimmers joining the seniors each year some discretion on attendance will be allowed. The senior coach will concentrate on distance and stamina rather than stroke work.

Enderby Swimming club also encourages swimmers and helpers to obtain ASA teaching, coaching and officiating qualifications subject to age restrictions.
